Abdulrahman Al-Mana is Qatari filmmaker, Member of Qatar Media Center and was one of World Cup 2022 organizers. graduated from United Kingdom Bachelor with honours in Film and TV production – keele University.

1. How the passion of making films started with you?

It started in my first year at college in Doha, I had model called media studies and to pass this model we had to do a short film with an inspiring story, I enjoyed and loved each step of creating this film with the students class. I decided to drop from this college and study filmmaking in the UK.


2- What major challenges do filmmakers face in the realm of film production?

One of the main challenges in pre-production is to find the right actor for the film, as a director there is specifications in the main actor. How he looks, how he talks and how he act, but the challenge in Doha there is not many of actors that ready to take the main role of the film, Sometimes you will have to see who is available in the list and move on.



3-What motivates you to be in film industry?

My main motivation not only in filmmaking but in my whole career in general is the Qatar 2030 Vision that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani have announced that the production will be relies entirely on local production In terms of economic, social, environmental and film industry development. And I look forward to be part in building a bright future for Doha.


4- What is the future of filmmaking in Qatar?

There is a significant and noticeable development in film production in Qatar and people in general are optimistic about it. we can see the positive effort to Improve film industry in Qatar with Doha Film Institute, Northwestern University, Qumra, Ajyal Film Festival and katara.


5- What are the main skills film production?

patience, creativity, treat the crew like a family, the ability to work under pressure, Production schedules.


6- Do you believe films can influence people lives?

Yes, Filmmaking offers a huge opportunity to create awareness and really touch people feelings. It is such a powerful form of communication. I find it incredibly invigorating to write a story and to see it become into reality. I think any creator will tell you the same.


7- Do you recommend people in Qatar to study film production?

Yes, I would especially after film and production major became verified in Qatar government scholarship program. Still not always necessary as you can learn making film by doing it.


8- best advice you have received in film industry?

Build a strong teamwork, filmmaking is a group effort. Different groups of people come on one place at different stages of the process for one project. It is impossible for a single person to make a film. the better team you build, the better results you will receive.
