Heenat Salma Farm is proud to announce the opening of Built by Many Hands: A Pavilion’s Tale. This unique photo exhibition celebrates the beauty of traditional craftsmanship and the enduring power of human hands in shaping space, memory, and meaning.
At the heart of the exhibition stands six permanent pavilions designed by renowned Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari and hand-built by a team of master masons and craftspeople—both men and women—from Pakistan. Constructed using bamboo and mud over several weeks, the structures reflect a deep reverence for sustainable materials, vernacular architecture, and the cultural wisdom embedded in craft traditions.
Originally commissioned as part of Manzar, a landmark exhibition by the Art Mill Museum that spotlighted Pakistan’s vibrant cultural landscape, the pavilions haveّ found a lasting home at Heenat Salma Farm. They will continue as a creative studio and exhibition space, inviting dialogue, reflection, and imagination.
“Without the hand of the craftsman, we lose our connection to history, our sense of place, and the soul of our environment,” said Fahad Al-Attiya, Executive Director of Caravane Earth Foundation, which oversees Heenat Salma. “These pavilions are more than architecture, they are a living symbol of friendship between Pakistan and Qatar, and a celebration of the human spirit.”
“Our zero-carbon bamboo structures, now part of Heenat Salma’s remarkable organic farm, reinforce a shared vision of healing the planet and promoting collective well-being. This collaboration highlights the vital role of natural materials and traditional knowledge in building a better future,” Architect Yasmeen Lari added.
We invite you to join us in honouring those who brought this experience to life, reflecting on the memories it carries, and celebrating the value of building through creativity and collective effort.
